Privacy Policy

Sity ("we," "us," "Sity") operates a rental property marketplace connecting landlords and tenants in Ghana. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and what we do with it.

We collect only what the platform actually needs to function — here's the real, specific list, not a generic one:

From everyone with an account:

• Full name, email address, phone number
• A profile photo, if you choose to add one

From landlords and agents specifically, to list a property:

• Property details: address/area, price, photos, description, amenities
• To verify your identity before your first listing goes live: a government-issued ID (Ghana Card, passport, or driver's license — front and back) and a selfie photo, for confirming the ID belongs to you

Automatically, as part of how the platform works:

• Which listings you've viewed (used to show accurate view counts and detect unusual activity, not for advertising)
• Basic account activity (when you signed up, when you last signed in)

If you contact support or report a listing:

• The content of your message or report, and your account information so we can follow up

If you sign in with Google:

• Your name, email, and profile photo, as provided by Google — we don't receive your Google password or anything beyond basic profile info

We do not collect payment card details or process payments — Sity connects tenants and landlords directly (by phone or WhatsApp); it does not handle rent payments itself.

• Account data (name, email, phone): to create and secure your account, and so landlords/tenants can contact each other once a tenant is signed in.
• ID verification documents:to confirm a landlord is a real person before their listings go live — this is core to Sity's promise of verified, trustworthy listings.
• Listing data: to actually show your property to tenants searching the platform.
• View data: to show accurate listing statistics and help us detect fraudulent or unusual activity.
• Support messages and fraud reports: so our team can help you, or investigate a reported listing.

Right now:

• Other users, in limited, specific ways:a landlord's name and phone number become visible to a tenant only after that tenant creates an account and views that landlord's specific listing — not before, and not broadly.
• Supabase, our infrastructure provider, which hosts our database, authentication, and file storage. Supabase acts as our data processor — it stores data on our behalf, under our instructions, and does not use it for its own purposes.
• Google, only if you choose to sign in with Google — standard OAuth sign-in, not a separate data-sharing relationship beyond that.

In the future:as Sity grows, we may share user data with related agencies — for example, partner real estate agencies or property management organizations we work with — as part of operating and expanding the platform. If and when this begins, we'll update this policy to name who specifically, and what data is involved, before it happens, not after.

We do not sell personal data to advertisers or data brokers, and we don't have any plans to.

Your data is stored with our infrastructure provider, Supabase, on servers located in Ireland, within the European Union. This means your data is transferred outside Ghana as a normal part of how the platform operates. The EU maintains strong data protection standards, which is a real factor in this arrangement, not an incidental one.

• Access to your data is restricted by real, enforced technical rules (Row-Level Security) — your data is only accessible to your own account, or to Sity staff whose role requires it (e.g., reviewing a verification submission).
• Sensitive actions (like approving a listing, or changing an account's status) are enforced on our servers, not just hidden in the app's interface.
• ID verification documents are stored in access-controlled storage — they are never publicly visible or accessible via a direct link.

Under Ghana's Data Protection Act, you have the right to:

• Know what personal data we hold about you
• Request a correction if something's inaccurate
• Request deletion of your data, subject to any legal or legitimate business reason we may need to retain it (for example, records tied to an active listing dispute)
• Object to how your data is being used

Sity is not intended for anyone under 18. We don't knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us and we'll investigate and remove it.

If we make a material change to this policy — especially around who we share data with — we'll update the date at the top and make a real effort to let existing users know, not just quietly edit the page.
